Location Requirements: Lives in King of Prussia, wants < 30-minute drive commute, although he’d drive further for an awesome opportunity. Prefers companies in between corporate and startup (stable, but exciting and innovating).
Interview Notes: Feels like he’s stagnated and there’s no room for growth. There’s a general unhappiness at his current employer right now because upper management doesn’t value people or have a plan that coincides with realities on the ground. Current responsibilities are all over the place, but it’s all data and software. Works regularly with Perl, Python, PHP, Ruby, Bash. Works on data quality and operations. Helps with analysis of data that’s coming into the system. Also maintains the actual scripts that do the loading, moves data from one place to another, downloads data. Other strengths include problem-solving, having a good memory, and being able to move quickly from one language to another. Wants to work in a team environment that lets him solve big problems more often. Wants to stay away from repetitive work. Torn because he could go with either data or software at this point. Likes learning, would like to work more with functional programming and things like Scala, Haskell, Go, Java, C#. Interested in the transportation industry, but open to any industry except military/weaponry. Kind of over the healthcare industry. Wishlist also includes casual dress code and flexible hours and/or work-from-home, but he knows the likelihood of checking all the boxes is slim. Doesn’t care about stock/unpredictable compensation. A diverse environment (i.e., not all 30-yr-old white men) is VERY important.
