Senior Engineering Manager of a design group for a large software company developing new cloud-based products, platforms, and technologies. Responsible for all engineering functions of core computational service. Managing a team of 15 Product Managers, User Experience Designers, Software Developers, Quality Assurance and Research Engineers.

Interview Notes: He is a senior engineering manager leading a team of 24 people (UX designers, developers, product managers, QA people) for a large software company. He’s worked in UX and product design, started with individual design work and became a manager around 2007. As manager of the UX team, he grew it to 10-12 people. Has run Agile for 10 years, his first teams were successful enough that the company adopted Agile throughout the rest of the company. Has lots of experience formulating scrum teams, finding the right people to do the job, most of his job now is making sure that teams are working effectively. Has been at his current company for 16 years. Lots of his job now involves traveling and working remotely. Wants to work for a smaller company that’s more local (even if it’s long commute like to Exton).
Lives in Yardley, Philly or NYC okay, < 2-hour commute okay, would ask for 1-2 days/week WFH with a long commute. Company culture is most important, he mentioned flexibility (e.g., company being okay with some WFH for people with long commutes). For a smaller company, would take $135K + healthcare, dental, vision + 401K. Stock/equity is very interesting to him, but not a deal-breaker. At this point, finances aren’t his motivator for leaving—he’s looking for a smaller company where he can grow and make a difference. Nice guy.
